Prince Harry at the Cirencester Park Polo Club in June. The recent good weather deserted me for the day - pouring rain, no light and a subject distance of some 150 yards did not make for an easy time photographically. Luckily modern gear is quite forgiving and the high end kit makes possible shots which otherwise would simply be impossible. For this shot I had my 500mm f4 lens paired with a 1.4x Canon converter giving an effective maximum aperture of f5.6. To achieve a reasonable shutter speed in the poor light involved dialling up the ISO setting but resulted in a nice image. Just enough shutter speed to stop the action apart from the back legs which show some movement, but also freezing the raindrops in the air and the grimace on his face. |
Camera data: Canon EOS 1DMK3 500mm f4L IS lens and 1.4x TC, 1/400th sec @ f5.6. ISO 2500 |
